Founder and Lead Tutor, specialised in Manga Illustration, Art & Design, Japanese Culture, Origami and crafts
I am Keroko James, a freelance Illustrator, Graphic Designer and Drawing Tutor in North London, DBS certificated.
I am from Japan and I have grown up loving Manga/Anime culture since a young age. When I was young, I constantly improved my art skills so that I could draw better Manga, which eventually resulted in my getting a BA in Fine Art (Oil Painting).
At my first job I learned Printing Design and Web Design. Therefore, I use both analog method (inking, water colour, markers) and digital methods (such and Photoshop, Clip Studio Paint) for my artworks.
I ran Manga Drawing Classes from 2012 to 2015 at Artpeggios art school in Earl’s Court, teaching various techniques for drawing manga — figure drawing, inking, composition, and digital coloring with Manga Studio — to young groups and individuals.
Since I established Froggy Manga in 2017, I have been teaching Manga Drawing to local children on a full time basis, including birthday party workshops and private lessons, work for local authorities and charities, including The Edge – Young Hackney, Stoke Newington Library and The Landmark Art Centre.
As a London-based illustrator / designer, I have worked for a broad range of clients, including publicity materials, book covers, art commissions, and manga caricaturing at events. You can see more about my artwork here: http://www.neokeroko.com/
During my spare time, I have also completed a postgraduate certificate in teaching Japanese as a foreign language. I look after bi-lingual children and support them in growing up with the Japanese language.
As volunteer work, I ran Manga Social Night, a monthly gathering of anime and manga enthusiasts from 2011-2018.
